My latest take Updated Cycle Odds – Post PMI (4 Aug 2026) Latest data ISM Manufacturing PMI: 55.6 (↑ from 53.3, highest since May 2022) S&P Global Manufacturing PMI: 53.9 (steady) Manufacturing accelerated. No longer “stuck” in the low 50s. Updated probabilities Extended cycle (5.4–5.6 yrs): 50–55% Stronger PMI supports longer liquidity/business cycle. Mid-cycle correction still the base case. Classic 4-year cycle (bottom already in): 20–25% Less likely after this acceleration. Deeper / longer bear into 2027: 15–20% Still possible if rates stay high or refinancing stress hits hard. Other / hybrid: 10% Base case remains: Extended cycle. We are in a mid-cycle correction within a longer (≈5.5-year) rhythm. Stronger PMI raises the odds that the next liquidity leg higher arrives later in 2026 / early 2027 rather than a classic 4-year bottom already being in. Still watching price confirmation + next liquidity signals.
